A cure for the physical and spiritual diseases of humankind through the Qur'an
By Dr. `Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai

The holy Qur'an, the great book which Allah, may He be exalted, has granted His servants is not only a book of guidance for human beings, but also an endless ocean of knowledge about the universe and the existents. To read and understand the holy Qur'an is a source of well being and a blessing; to unveil its hidden secrets is also a pleasure of Allah, may He be exalted, and a meritorious deed for human welfare and prosperity. In addition to other characteristics of the Qur'an, its greatest miracle is that it reveals itself to its reader. That is, as he continues to study it, its hidden secrets, meanings and purports continue to become clear to him. What is required for its study is peace of mind, continuity, submission and humility. It then starts to reveal itself to its reader and gradually, both the latter's reflection and action begin to follow the guidance of the Qur'an. Or, in other words, the Qur'an with all its purports becomes encompassed in the reader. 'Allamah Iqbal mentions this very miracle and philosophy of the holy Qur'an in one of his verses:

Yeh raz kisi ko nahin ma`lum keh mu'min
Qari nazar ata hai haqiqat men hai Qur'an
Nobody knows this secret of a mu'min who
Appears to be a reader, but, in reality, is the Qur'an.

There have been pious servants of Allah and mu'mins in every cycle who touched this grandeur of the holy Qur'an and continued their search to attain it. They wrote commentaries of the Qur'an and engaged in research of its merits. This consecutive attempt of conveying its graces and blessings to the common people is on-going.

There are many names today in connection with the understanding and research of the Qur'an, but one among them stands out; and the work he has done in this field is indeed matchless and unique among all those works which have been accomplished so far. This name is "`Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai". His outstanding contribution is that he has unveiled with profound knowledge, the hidden secrets concerning the curative aspect of the holy Qur'an in his "Book of Healing", due to which the marvellous and wondrous excellences of Qur'anic concepts and spiritual secrets appear before the reader [in such a way] that the intellect is wonder struck.

Undoubtedly, `Allamah Sahib is a genius of the time. In addition to being the author of over a hundred books on the esoteric interpretation of the Qur'an, he is also a poet. He is well known as "Baba-yi Burushaski", because he is the first to have a "diwan" in Burushaski, his mother tongue, which is a unique language of the world. He also composes poetry in Urdu, Turkish and Persian. He has been granted an honorary doctorate by the Senior University of America and Canada, in recognition of his services to spiritual science. He is also a distinguished Senior Professor of the same university. His famous works include "Balance of Realities", "Du`a – the essence of `Ibadat", "What is Soul?", etc. He is, moreover, the co-author of a German-Burushaski dictionary published by Heidelberg University and "Hunza Proverbs" published by Calgary University.

"Book of Healing" shows the best way of [curing] human diseases, together with the explanations of the meanings and purports of the guidance(s) and stories of the holy Qur'an, with reference to the nafs-i ammarah (the soul which persistently commands to do bad) (12:53), nafs-i lawwamah (the soul which emphatically censors itself for any errors) (75:2) and nafs-i mutma'innah (the satisfied soul) (89:27). Light is also shed on the cure of physical diseases together with the causes and reasons for the spiritual diseases of humankind, which are related to ethics, ideology and the intellect. `Allamah Sahib has discussed these diseases thoroughly with well-grounded arguments and in a scientific way. When the discussion comes to an end, all the veils of ignorance of the intellect and the mind are torn apart. It is surprising that in the presence of a book such as the holy Qur'an, based on (Divine) knowledge and wisdom, humanity continues to sob for the sake of the cure [of its various ailments]!

In the "Book of Healing", `Allamah Sahib himself has explained that it is a compendium of his three books "Qur'anic Healing", "Healing through Knowledge" and "Spiritual Healing", previously published separately. The first part of the book, "Qur'anic Healing" consists of: Importance of this Book, Radio Interview of `Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai, Proof of Qur'anic Healing (`Ilaj), Medical Allusions in the Suratu'sh-Shifa' (al-Fatihah), Holy Qur'an and the Human Heart, Verses on Shifa' (Healing), Qur'anic Medicine and Taqwa, Qur'anic Medicine and Voice, Allusions of Dream, Divine Remembrance - Supreme Elixir, Cure of False Fear, Prayer - A Heavenly Medicine, Spiritual Science, Divine Love (`Ishq-i Ilahi), Standard of Health, Real Health, Man in the World - World in the Man, Whom does God love and whom does He not love?, Recognition of Prophets and Awliya', Physical Healing in the Qur'an, Some Important Suggestions, Spiritual Healing and Firm Belief (`Aqidah), The Concept of the Waves of Light, Healing through the Movement of Feet, Germs and the Power of `Izra'il, Healing through Breathing, Healing through Quake (Shivering).

The second part of the book, "Healing through Knowledge", in addition to a Preface comprises: How is Healing through Knowledge Possible?, Laws of Spirit and Spirituality, Cure of Sleeplessness or Insomnia, Cure of Bad Dreams, Secrets of Malakut and Medicine, An Extremely Healing Quake (Shivering), Hunger - A Divine Cure, Cure of Ghussah (Anger), Cure by Goodwill, Kinds of Dhikr (Remembrance), The Path of the Prophets and Spiritual Health, Jism-i Mithali (Body of Similitude), Cure of Waswasah, Cure of Kabus (Incubus), Sleep of Awliya', Service to Mankind, Black Magic and Its Remedy, Cure through Rapid Dhikr, Cure through the Honey of Wisdom, Death before Death, Possible Progress and a Lesson of High Ambition, Paired Fruits of Paradise, Wisdom of Giryah-u Zari, Tajaddud-i Amthal, Examples of Qur'anic Marvels and Wonders, Examples of the Secrets of Wahy, [Allusions of Sulayman's Kingdom], Qur'anic Prophecy, Luminous Time and Luminous 'Ibadat, etc.

In the third part of the book, "Spiritual Healing" [in addition to a Preface] are discussed subjects such as The Spirit of the Qur'an, Satisfaction of the Heart, The Qur'an and the Interpretation of Dreams, Cure by the Understanding of the Qur'an, Different Wisdoms, Excellence of Intellect and Wisdom, Ummu'l–Kitab, Cure by Mu`awwidhatan, Heavenly Love, Dreams and Treasures, Acceptable Prayers, `Izra'ili Wisdom, Eye of Certainty and Recognition, Allusions of Tajaddud-i Amthal, Minor Resurrection, Perfect Man, Gems of Tariqat, Barakat (Blessings) of the Qur'an, Following the Prophets and their Companionship, Cure of Pain by Pain, Personal World and Paradise.

All these subjects are discussed in detail in the light of Qur'anic reasoning and in such a wisdom-filled way that every word and every point finds a response in the heart and the reader feels as though an ocean of knowledge is poured into him. In addition to the uniqueness of the topics, `Allamah Sahib's style of expression is extremely easy, well-grounded and unique. The link never breaks from the beginning to the end and the reader is never entangled in the intricacies of words. Every word is extremely simple and belongs to the commonly used idiom. The reader does not need a dictionary to search for the meaning of words, which is mostly customary in the study of such books. Another great accomplishment of `Allamah Sahib is his grasp of the subject. Thus whatever subject he discusses, the reader's attention is held by it. He neither deviates from the subject, nor allows the reader to do so, despite the subsidiary discussions contained in it. The link ends only when the discussion ends. In short, "Book of Healing" is a revered treasure of the miracles, marvels and wonders of the holy Qur'an. It is also a unique album of `Allamah Hunzai's insight and spiritual wisdom.

If this book is studied with peace of mind, not only will it enable the reader to cure his physical and spiritual diseases, but also facilitate him to duly attain his magnificent position as the noblest creature in the universe. How crucial it is in the present age to keep [the sense of] humanity alive and to take man back to his original position! Perhaps this has never been as necessary as now. In such a context, `Allamah Sahib's services per se are no less than a miracle. May Allah accept his virtuous work and increase his high ambition and success!
