Hazrat-i Hasan (May peace be through him)

Q30 It is universally accepted that Hazrat-i Hasan (May peace be through him) is a member of the Five Holy Persons (panj-tan-i pak). What, in addition to this, is the Isma`ili point of view regarding his status?

A30 As we have already discussed in detail in the answer to Question No. 8, and will also briefly do so in the answer to Question No. 32, Imam Hasan (May peace be through him) was an imam-i mustawda` (Entrusted Imam), because the light of Imamat manifests itself in different ranks according to the demands of time and place. For instance, there are imam-i muqim (Resurrector Imam), imam-i asas (Foundation Imam), imam-i mutimm (Completer Imam), imam-i mustaqarr (Permanent Imam) and imam-i mustawda` (Entrusted Imam). (see al-Imamatu fi'l- Islam, p. 143).

Imam-i mustawda` is simultaneously [present] with the imam-i mustaqarr, and whose Imamat returns to the latter after a generation or more. As in the case of Hazrat-i Ibrahim (May peace be through him), Hazrat-i Isma`il was imam-i mustaqarr after him, and Hazrat-i Ishaq was imam-i mustawda`, whose Imamat returned to the imam-i mustaqarr after several generations during the time of the holy Prophet Muhammad (May Allah send blessings and peace through him and his progeny) (Ibid: pp. 149, 151, 153, 155).
