Hundred Questions - Conditions and Manners of `ibadat
Conditions and Manners of `ibadat
Q36 How should one do `ibadat and zikr so that one can be successful?
A36 The conditions and manners of `ibadat are as follows:-
- In order to progress spiritually the true and sincere servant should do the general and special `ibadat enraptured with the feelings and sentiments of true love. Goodwill and the service of the jama`at are also compulsory conditions.
- That the true mu'min should repent practically for all his sins, by performing giryah-u zari in the morning and the evening. For `ibadat cannot progress if the slightest particle of the rust of sin is left in the heart. Further, without religious knowledge spiritual progress is impossible.
- That the faithful servant (bandah-yi mu'min) should be in constant remembrance (da'imu'z-zikr) of God, so that his heart may gradually be purified and his `ibadat may be successful. Righteousness (taqwa) is very essential.
- If you are keen on progressing spiritually through special `ibadat you should wake up early at night and perform munajat (supplication to God) and giryah-u zari (shedding tears and crying); prostrate again and again with absolute humility and pray.
- That you must be completely righteous. That is, you must act upon the commands and abstain from the prohibitions of religion. And the easiest way to be righteous is to use all the internal and external senses in accordance with the commands and prohibitions of God.
Note. In this connection the study of Zikr-i ilahi, which is one of my books may be useful.
