Hundred Questions - Shari`at
Shari`at:
Q67 Is it true that when one reaches the stage of tariqat or haqiqat, he dispenses with the shari`at?
A67 No, not at all. This [statement] is not true. Shari`at cannot be completely dispensed with, because everything in religion consists of the four elements of shari`at, tariqat, haqiqat and ma`rifat. However, it is certainly true that if in one thing shari`at is dominant, in another tariqat and in a third haqiqat and in a fourth thing ma`rifat is dominant [without excluding any of them]. For further elaboration, see the end of one of my books, Eight Questions Answered.
