Look at the word "amwatan" in the Noble Qur'an (2:28; 3:169; 77:26), which is used for the dead and about the martyrs it is said in verse (3:169): "And do not reckon those who are slain in the way of Allah as dead, nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance (of every kind) from their Lord". Since amwatun and amwatan are the two fonns of the same word, note also amwatun in the Wise Qur'an (2:154; 16:21; 35:22).

Rubies and Pearls 44

One should reflect with an inquiring spirit on the heavenly teaching of verse (2:28), and not accept blindly (what others say about it). "How can you deny Allah when you were dead and He gave you life? Again He will cause you to die and again bring you to life; then you shall be brought back to Him." Here in "You were dead" there is a great secret. This does not mean that man was nothing. He did exist, but his state in comparison to the present life was like death, of which there are many examples, such as the particle of existence which continues to pass from generation to generation from the time of Adam.

1 think that the above example is a form of explanation of the law of existence. Therefore, let us look at a Qur'anic treasure, which is: "How do you disbelieve in God, seeing you were dead and He gave you life, then He shall make you dead, then He shall give you life, then unto Him you shall be returned?" (2:28). This means that in azal, people were in the state of death. But it must be asked what kind of death was it? This has already been answered in, the Wise Qur'an in many ways. The first answer is that it was the death of having no name and no trace. That is, the drop of soul existed in the ocean of the Single Soul (nafs-i wahidah), but without any mention, identity and name, as it is said in the verse (76:1): "Has there come on man (again) a while of dahr (immovable time) in which he was not a thing mentioned." Thus, in this verse, is mentioned the beginninglessness and endlessness of the circle of creation. Study point 9 again carefully.

Sweet Smelling 26

ZERO: In the order of numbers first comes zero. Although by itself it does not show any quantity, it is the starting point of every quantity and distance. See the following diagram:
Thus, according to Quranic symbolism, zero is the sign of non-being. And according to the sages of religion, non-being means ibda, because it is free from everything and beyond comprehension, but by the will of the word “Be (kun)” its manifestations continue to take place and whatever the sovereign of “Be” wishes comes in front of him. Now to discuss how the zero stands for non-being or ibda, see verse (2:28): “You were lifeless, then He brought you to life.” That is, in the state of ibda’ you were silent and without movement of life, just as when zero is alone it has no value. Then He brought you to life, as someone who wrote zero (.) and elongated it downwards and made one(1). Another name of ibda’ in the Wise Quraan is “ghayr shay” (non-being)(52:35).
