related refs 31:22
The original meaning of Islam is to surrender, to submit. Thus Islam means to surrender oneself to God, as has been mentioned about Hazrat Ibrahim : "When his Lord said unto him: Surrender (aslim)! he said: I have surrendered (aslamtu) to the Lord of the worlds". (2:131). Further, Islam also implies knowledge and action, as it is said: "Whosoever surrenders (yuslimu) his (inner) face to Allah and is doer of good (muhsin), he verily has grasped the firm handle." (31:22). In this verse, is mentioned the acceptance of the concept of Islam and to act upon it accordingly.
