Q.4. Kindly explain the tawil wisdom of verse (2:243): "(0 Prophet!) Did you not see those who went forth from their homes for fear of death? They were thousands, and Allah said to them: Die! (They died.) Then He brought them back to life. Verily Allah is gracious to people, but most people are not grateful."
A. This extremely great event occurs to the people of the world when in every age, the sur of the individual Resurrection starts to blow, due to which, out of fear, the representative particles go forth from the homes of their bodies and enter the person of Resurrection (shakhs-i qiyamat), in which God causes them to experience the taste of death, and then He brings them back to life.

Spring Of knowledge 55

Mutu (Die!)

When spiritual resurrection takes place in the Perfect Man, the representative souls or particles of the people of the time, come out of the bodies and rush to the place of resurrection due to the fear of death. Then God says to them: "Die! (They die). Then He brings them back to life.” (2:243)

Mutu 2 (Die!)

It is said in verse (2:243): "Verily Allah is gracious to people, but most people are not grateful." That is, people should know the bounties of God in the light of ilmu'l-yaqin, the knowledge of certainty, and appreciate them so that they may be grateful in a true sense to God for His bounties. This means that real gratitude is possible only through knowledge.

Thousand Wisdoms 866 (451)

In this connection, there is also verse (2:243): "Did you not see those who went forth from their homes in their thousands, fearing death and Allah said to them: Die. Then He brought them back to life. Verily, Allah is gracious to people but most people are not grateful."
Q. Who were these thousands or innumerable people? Why did Allah say to them: Die?
A. They were the particles of souls who, in fear of the sur of Israfil, were coming forth from the graves of human beings and going towards the caller where the personal Resurrection and spiritual death of one of the hudud-i din was taking place. These innumerable particles also experienced spiritual death with the hudud-i din and thus their inbicath also took place. All this happened in an unconscious state, but in Paradise it will appear in front of them like a spiritual film.

Part 17

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

It is mentioned in verse (2:243): “Verily, Allah is gracious to people, but most people are not grateful.” This verse shows that Allah is kind to all people, but it is they who are ungrateful. Despite this, the holy Prophet, by the command of God, has said: “People are God’s household, and the most beloved to God is the one who helps His household and makes them happy”.8

It is also said in a sacred hadith: “God, may He be mighty and glorified, has said: The people are My household – the most beloved of them to Me is the one who is most kind to them and struggles the hardest to fulfil their needs”.9

We have already stated that the embodied light (nur-i mujassam) or the true guide, is the Imam of humankind as well as the Imam of the righteous, and there is no contradiction at all in these two ranks of the Imam, peace be upon him.

Praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of human beings!

The Wise Qur’an and the World of Humanity (22)

It is mentioned in verse (2:243): “Did you not see those who went forth from their homes, for fear of death? And they were thousands, then Allah said to them: Die! Then He brought them back to life. Verily Allah is gracious to people, but most people are not grateful.”

The Wise Qur’an and the World of Humanity (39)

Q284 It is mentioned in verse (2:243): “(O Messenger!) Did you not see those who went forth from their homes, for fear of death? And they were thousands, then Allah said to them: Die, and then He brought them back to life. Verily, Allah is gracious to people, but most of them are not grateful.” There seems to be a great secret of recognition in this verse, would you kindly explain it to us?

A284 God willing!

  • When the sur is blown and the resurrection starts to take place, the representative particles of people go forth from their bodies for fear and run to the place of resurrection and seek refuge in the one who undergoes it.
  • Divine mercy lies in the fact that all of them should die unconsciously and are then revived.
  • How great is God’s favour towards the people of the world!
  • This is a very great revolutionary secret; therefore, all of you should try to understand its reality.
