Hakim bi-amri’llah (peace be upon him):

Root: ha’, kaf, mim. Hakim bi-amri’llah means the one who judges and decides according to the command of God; the one who rules according to the command of God. Here it is worth pondering that as far as saying is concerned, many people say that they are judging or deciding according to the command of God, but it is only the Imam on this planet earth who really judges and decides according to the command and will of God. As God says: “Lo! We have revealed unto you the Book with the truth, and that you may judge between humankind by that which Allah has shown you (in spirituality)” (4:105). In “by that which Allah has shown you” is alluded the spirit and spirituality of the Qur’an, which is specifically for the Prophet and Imam. Thus according to the command of God, the Teacher of the Qur’an and the Judge is only the Imam.
