Attire of Paradise: The clothes of this world are without life, without feeling and they are silent. Contrary to this, the attire of Paradise is adorned with the beauties of intellect, soul and feeling. It should be considered as a perfect man, or an angel or an additional soul (ruh-i idafi), to wear which, means to make it one with one's own soul. You may have considered the shirt of Hazrat Yusuf to be a physical shirt, but it is not so. It was a shirt of Paradise, i.e. the luminous attire. It was for this reason that it was cast on Hazrat Ya'qub's face (12:93,96). This means that the shirt was not related to the body, but to the internal senses. Thus it is a bright example of the attire of Paradise. The clothes of this world have no will, you can use them as you like, but the attire of Paradise is an angel. Therefore, in its case it is true to say that, in one sense you wear it, but in the other, it wears you.

Sweet Smelling 62

Tayyibat (Spiritual fragrances for subtle food)

Hazrat Yusuf's shirt was placed on Hazrat Yacqub's face in order to restore the inner senses (12:93). Here the shirt is only a symbol (mithal) and there is much more in its meaning (mamthul). Among them is fragrance which is also of every kind, because there are many blessings in one thing of the Qur'an. I have also previously written about spiritual fragrances, so study all my writings.

Qamis (Shirt)

Hazrat Yusuf said: "Go with this shirt of mine." (12:93). This miraculous shirt was the ibdai body of the Imam. The shirt is like a veil and the one veiled is the Imam himself.

Qamis (Shirt)

In verse (12:93), quoting the words of Hazrat Yusuf, it is said: "Go with my shirt and put it on my father's face, he will become a seer again." This is a bright example of the miracle of the light of the Imam of the time, that he can cast the reflection of his light on a lover and can give him a copy of his ibdai body. Hazrat Yusuf was both the physical and luminous son of Hazrat Yaqub, but here it is necessary to know that all the weeping and shedding of tears of the latter was for the luminous vision of the luminous son.

Jism-i falaki (Celestial body): This is different from the elements of the earth, water, air and fire. It is the fifth element, prime matter (hayula), the luminous figure, ethereal body, astral body, nasamah (spiritual body), jinn, lightning body and luminous body, which is able to fly throughout the universe. It is both visible and invisible. In reality, it is called the world of particles and the personal world, which is the subtle attire of paradise. The same is also the shirt of Yusuf (12:93) in which all souls are gathered together as armies (“al-arwahu junudun mujannadah”, Bukhari, IV, 348).

Book of Healing (231)

Shirt of Yusuf: By the shirt of Hazrat Yusuf is also meant the jism-i mithali (12:93) with which a living world of fragrances is linked. These fragrances work as the nourishment of the subtle body. It is really amazing that when man is in the womb of the mother, he absorbs his nourishment through the navel and when he is born, the path of the navel closes and the path of the mouth, i.e. throat, is used for food. When he experiences the subtle body he receives subtle food in the form of fragrances through the nostrils, and he enjoys the pleasure of spiritual and intellectual bounties through the ear whenever he wishes to.

Book of Healing (233)

The holy Prophet has said: “Inni la-ajidu nafasa'r-Rahmani min qibali'l-Yaman (I find the fragrance of Rahman (Compassionate) from the direction of Yaman).” It is said that during the time of the Prophet, a friend of God named Uways-i Qarani was living in Yaman and the Prophet alludes to him in this Hadith. This is not a mere example bereft of reality rather it signifies that the holy Prophet by saying this reveals the secret that there is support for both body and soul. It is mentioned in the Qur'anic story of Hazrat Yusuf that he sent his shirt with his brothers to his father, Hazrat Yaqub, so that he may regain the power of his sight. When the caravan departed from Egypt, Hazrat Yaqub in Canaan experienced the fragrance of Hazrat Yusuf (12:93-94). The intellect being brought up with marifat, knows that the smell received by Hazrat Yaqub from Hazrat Yusuf and by which he regained his eyesight was a spiritual smell, not a physical one.
