Bi'r (Well)

The wise Qur’an abounds with varying examples of the personal world. According to one of them it is like a central town, in which there is a well of sweet water and also a magnificent palace (22:45). By the well is meant the fountainhead of knowledge which never exhausts and the palace is the symbol of the fact that it is possible to have a spiritual kingdom in every personal world. However, if someone wrongs himself, then all this is going to be ruined.

Thousand Wisdoms 180 (100)

Under the surface of the spiritual earth of every mu'min, every muslim and every human being, there is an inexhaustible store of sweet water. Woe to those people who, in their personal world have left this miraculous well of the water of knowledge unused and the lofty palace empty (22:45).
