39:22

related refs 6:125?, 94:1, 20:25,

Soul itself is an indivisible substance. However, where the soul is connected with jism-i latif (subtle or ethereal body), there are innumerable particles of the soul; for the soul either rides upon each of these particles or has them in its grip. These particles fly back and forth, and there are innumerable numbers of these also in the elemental body (of man). Thus, the "dot of the heart" (nuqtah-i dil) or the "dot of the spirit" (nuqtah-i ruh), is that living particle which works at the place of the connection and association of the heart with the mind, or, at the centre of consciousness. Then, when the chain of dhikr-i ilahi (Divine remembrance) continues to go on, with the completion of all its conditions, then this subtle particle (latif dharrah), which is the centre of human life and survival, is transformed into light and adds on other particles around itself, and gradually the circle of this spiritual light expands, till it reaches to the extension of the circle of the world. In verses (6:125); (20:25); (39:22) and (94:1) of the Holy Qur'an, this spiritual reality is mentioned under the caption of sharh-i sadr, i.e., the "expansion of the heart."

Ahsan (The very best)

O my dears! Remember that "ahsan" is one of the magnificent subjects of the Qur'an. Those who truly love the Book of Allah must reflect on such subjects. It should also be remembered that every ruku of the Qur'an has a separate heading. Thus, the beginning of the third ruku of the surah of Zumur is related to Divine remembrance (39:22-23). The purport of this is that He expands the breasts of those who remember Him with effacement and annihilation and makes them the place of the light of knowledge and wisdom. It is also said that there is perdition for those who, due to callousness of the heart, are deprived of the countless benefits of Divine remembrance.

Ahsan (The very best)

In verse (39:23) there is the praise of the holy Qur’an externally and of the ism-i azam internally, because the chosen ones of God remember Him by His ism-i azam, which is "ahsanu'l-hadith (the best speech)”, and is from God. It is a book full of ta'wil which is read repeatedly and by its regular dhikr, the bodies of those who fear God tremble, then their bodies and hearts become tender and tend to the miraculous dhikr of Allah.

When the concept of spiritual expansion is established, we want to explain further the expansion of the heart. God says: “is he whose heart Allah has expanded for Islam and follows (the guidance of) a light from His Lord (equal to the one who has gone astray)? Then woe unto those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Such are in plain error” (39:22)
