In the name of God, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful

It is mentioned in verse (9:3) filled with profound wisdom: "And an announcement from Allah and His messenger, to the people on the day of the great pilgrimage (al-hajji'l-akbar) is that Allah is free from obligation to the idolaters."

Ta'wil: The great pilgrimage means the spiritual resurrection, in which it is announced that Allah and His messenger are utterly averse to the idolaters. Reflect also upon verse (22:27) that Hazrat-i Abraham (May peace be through him)'s spiritual resurrection is called the pilgrimage (hajj), because esoterically the Qur'anic stories of all the Prophets are about their spiritual resurrection.
