Command of Excelling: God says: "And every one has a direction to which he turns. Excel then to do good works." (2:148). That is, avoid the debate of direction (qiblah) with the people of the Book and excel them in good deeds. It is obvious that "run" and "excel" are possible only on the straight path. Also see the phrases "saricu (hasten), run!" (3:133) and "sabiqu (excel)" (57:21), how the Muslims are commanded to run on the straight path and to excel one another.
