Why the name "qalb" is given to the human heart can also be seen in "Qur'anic Healing" (p. 30ff), so that you may be aware of the external and internal "qalb" and "inqilab" (revolution). The external inqilab for mu'mins was and is that mentioned in verse (2:155). Undoubtedly, not only Abdu'l-Ahad, but also many other mu'mins, both before and after ibadat and sometimes during ibadat used to do giryah-u zari. How great Divine mercy was in this state from a spiritual point of view! One day in a state between luminous imagination and a luminous dream I saw Abdul-Ahad. He was standing delighted, happy and contented, but he was silent. He made some signs with his hand towards the heaven and the stars in such a way that I automatically understood the meaning. In symbolic language, he was saying that why should we weep on earth because of being deprived of our land and property, when our Lord has created countless worlds of stars and great kingdoms of Paradise in the immense vastnesses of the universe?

Patience: The subject of patience is very vast, for it has to be practised in many places or stations on the path of religion - externally and internally, physically and spiritually. The subject of patience is so vast that all the teachings of religion are covered by its five sub-subjects, which are: fear, hunger, loss of wealth, loss of lives, loss of fruits and each of these are further classified into numerous branches. According to the Qur'an (2:155-157), God says that He wants to try mu mins on all these occasions (of patience) and the Prophet is commanded to give glad tidings to the patient that there descend upon them salawat, mercy and guidance from their Lord.

Studies in Spiritualism and Dreams 10

Study carefully verses (2:155-57) in the Wise Quraan, how extremely great the return to Allah and how difficult is are its conditions. For instance, the trial of His servant by God: every kind of fear and hunger, loss of property and soul, dearth of fruits and to have patience and remember God in these and other such states and other such states and to say: We belong to God and to Him we have to return.

Sublime Realities 88

Although God, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise, the Creator of the universe, has created innumerable things in the world of humanity, yet by His profound wisdom He has selected five things to try His servants in the field of patience and steadfastness. These five things are: every kind of fear, every kind of hunger, every kind of loss of wealth, every kind of loss of life, and loss of every kind of fruit (2:155). You must study verses (2:153-159) minutely and carefully, so that it may be quite clear to you that, where “God is with those who have patience”, what kind of act is patience? What are the states and conditions under which the existence of patience is created and what are its means, sources and occasions?

Book of Healing (206)

“And We will most certainly try you with something of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give glad tidings to the patient, who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: Surely we belong to God and we have to return to Him. These are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and these are the rightly guided”. (2:155-157) You see God, the most Just of judges, tries the Muslims by five kinds of tests, which can happen to every mu'min individually. Among these, first is mentioned the test of fear. Fear has four places: Wakefulness, i.e. external world, imagination, dream and spirituality, and at every place there are many kinds of fear. Thus God can test any of His servants with whatever kind of fear He wants. The bliss for mu'mins lies in that they should remain patient and grateful to God in any of the above-mentioned calamities, and say in the light of knowledge and wisdom: “We belong to God, therefore, we return to Him not only after death, but also in every trial of this life with heart and soul”, so that the Prophet may give glad tidings to them, as God commands him in this Qur'anic teaching: “And give glad tidings!”

Book of Healing (242)

Hazrat Mawlana Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah has emphatically drawn attention to the blessed verse of "istirjac" (i.e. to say inna li’llahi wa-inna ilayhi rajican). In this connection the three verses are: "We shall surely try you with something of fear, and hunger, and loss of wealth, and lives and fruits: and give glad tidings to the patient ones, who when misfortune befalls them say: Verily, we are Allah’s and to Him we return. Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and they are those who are rightly guided." (2:155-157).
Wisdom 1. For every mu’min with high ambition, every trial is beneficial for the soul, for there is no ascension or elevation without trial.
Wisdom 2. According to God, the important trials which were necessary for extremely fruitful results were only these ones.
Wisdom 3. Fear is a state of the heart in which the soul abandons all worldly thoughts and adopts a humble and pitiable form. In such a condition man pays complete attention towards God.
Wisdom 4. The animal soul is reformed by hunger.
Wisdom 5. By loss of wealth and lives, a state of brokenness and annihilation pervades the heart.
Wisdom 6. By loss of fruits is meant the loss of spirituality.
In short, all these states help one to return to God both temporarily and permanently provided there is religious awareness.
Wisdom 7. Istirjac means to say "Verily, we belong to Allah and to Him is our return." But it is necessary to know that by this is meant that the original abode of man is the Divine Presence. He has come here by descending the ladder of God and is to return to the ocean of His light by ascending it.
