The word “salat (pl. salawat)" is used in the sense of durud (blessings), mercy, prayer and namaz (ritual prayer). In addition to the above-mentioned verses, in verse (2:157) also, it is used in the sense of durud or blessings for the mu'mins, which is: "Those are they on whom are salawat and mercy from their Lord, and they are those who are (rightly) guided."
