Sirat mustaqim (The representative of God, the Imam of the time)

See verse (3:101): "And whoever holds fast to (the representative of) Allah is surely guided to (the end of) the straight path." That is, whoever holds fast to the holy hem of the representative of God can reach the ultimate destination of the straight path. Thus, the straight path is a mithal or example and the Imam of the time is the mamthul or the meaning of the example.

Thousand Wisdoms 503 (268)

How to hold fast to God or His Rope? In verse (3:101) we are commanded to hold firm unto God and in verse (3:103) to hold firm to His Rope, but the intellect is perplexed about what power man has, through which he can in any sense, reach God and hold unto Him firmly? Indeed, there is the Divine love which is a great power revealed by God and granted to His servants, one end of which is in the Hand of God and the other in the hand of His servants like the Rope of God. Since the Qur’an, Islam, and each and everything of religion is revealed to the holy Prophet, therefore, it is a fact, that the luminous rope of true love can also reach the hand of a fortunate Muslim through him, so that all spiritual diseases may be cured through Divine love.

Since "itasimu" is the imperative of the infinitive "itisam" which means to hold fast to a strong thing to escape danger, therefore, the question arises: "What was the danger which made it necessary to hold fast to the rope of God?" the answer is in two ways: firstly, he whose hand is released from the rope of God, is in danger of going astray and conversely he who holds fast to it, finds guidance, as God says: "And whoever holds fast to Allah is surely guided to the right path." (3:101). It is obvious that holding fast to the rope of God means holding fast to Him, which results in following the right path. otherwise, there is danger of going astray.

Wisdom 7:

God says: “But how can you disbelieve while it is you to whom the verses of Allah are recited, and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds fast to Allah is surely guided to the right path” (3:101). From this verse it is evident that during the Prophet’s time, holding to God, i.e., God’s rope, and to guide on the straight path was possible only through the sublime teachings of religious harmony and unity which the Prophet used to impart to the Muslims and mu’mins by the command of God. Thus the Prophet himself had the status of the Divine rope in his time.
