related refs 8:26, 5:114

Q. Our revered teacher! We seek not to argue with you but for the sake of precious knowledge, we would like to know some solutions to our problems, so please tell us what the justification is for the music of the drum and flute, a tradition which has continued in Hunza from olden days. In addition we believe that there is a communal band in your village of Hydarabad. What are the benefits in this for the masses?
A. Look carefully in the Holy Qur'an and note those things which are unlawful, but who has forbidden the zinat which God has created? You should study carefully verse (7:32) about zinat. Thus the external zinat of God is according to the five senses: for the visual sense it is the scenery of gardens and meadows, for the auditory sense music and melodiousness, for the olfactory sense every kind of fragrance, for the gustatory sense pure and delicious foods and for the tactual sense fine and appropriate dress. Thus for every sense, there is a separate zinat. Now I will tell you about the band which is played in Hunza on special occasions in which the masses gather in the open. Such gatherings are mostly related to religious festivals in which there are speeches by children and the elderly, cultural amusement also plays its part whereby tired farmers become refreshed and the audience achieves happiness. Such a gathering is related to a religious festival, and men and women, old and young, small and big, all melt under its influence, because all are staunch mumins and muminat.

Zinat Allah (Ornament of God, inner and spiritual ornament, embellishment)

It is said in verse (7:32): "Say (O Muhammad): Who has forbidden the ornament which Allah has brought forth for His servants, and the subtle nourishments? Say: These, on the Day of Resurrection will be exclusively for those who believed during the life of this world." This Divine teaching has two aspects, one exoteric and the other esoteric. However, the esoteric aspect is very rational, logical and necessary, so that by this Divine wisdom the wise people may have recourse to the inner ta'wil.

Thousand Wisdoms 415 (224)

In the Qur’anic words such as “Tayyibatin mina'r-rizq (pure things of sustenance 7:32; 8:26)”, by rizq are meant the fragrances or the essences of sustenance, which are used in connection with His chosen servants. They testify that the dignitaries of religion used to receive these things spiritually. Otherwise, if by rizq we mean the pure things [in a physical sense], this will raise the question of the purity or impurity of the sustenance, while apparently, the Prophets, the friends of God and the common people used to eat the same kind of food. Further, if God, the Best of Sustainers, has spoken of rizq conferred on His Prophets and friends, then it is not the rizq or sustenance which is also available to others. However, linked with the end of the worldly rizq or sustenance, this [particular] sustenance will also be discovered. For, the external and internal worlds are linked together and the law is that when one is decreased the other takes its place.

O Allah! Grant us sustenance, for You are the Best of Sustainers! (5:114).
