Jinns or Angels: Regarding Hazrat Sulayman's jinni hujjats, it is said in verse (34:13): "They made for him whatever he wished, fortresses (maharib), statues(tamathil), large basins (jifan) like reservoirs, and huge immovable cooking cauldrons". Tawili wisdom: In this magnificent Divine teaching, first is alluded the Izra'ili stage in which the flying living fortresses are made, then the bright thoughts and concepts and silent and speaking pictures of the personal world are mentioned in which everything is presented for the sake of example and pictorial knowledge and wisdom, then the basins, each of which in its capacity is like a huge reservoir, by which are meant the Perfect Words (kalimat-i tammat) are mentioned, which if spiritual food is placed in them, is sufficient for the people of the entire world. And finally are mentioned cauldrons which are immovable, by which are meant the fountainheads of knowledge and recognition of the rank of the Universal Intellect which are permanent and immovable and are the final destination for the spiritual traveler.

Shakur (Very grateful)

Although the expression of gratitude is a useful bandagi in all times, in its true sense, it can only be accomplished at the height of receiving great bounties. This is stated after the mention of the accomplishment of the work of jinn in the spiritual kingdom of Hazrat Sulayman: "O children of Dawud! Act in the way of gratitude. Verily few of My servants are grateful." (34:13). That is, do favour to the people according to the great bounties which God has granted you, so that it may be a practical gratitude to God, i.e. appreciation of His bounties.

Suwar (Statues, living pictures, luminous bodies)

In addition to the Hadith, it is better if this is substantiated with Qur'anic evidence. Thus, in verse (34:13) it is mentioned that the jinn used to make pictures for Hazrat Sulayman. It is extremely interesting and pleasing that these pictures were the spiritual copies of Hazrat Sulayman himself, who possessed Prophethood, Imamat and kingdom. Thus, O my dears! try to attain the rank of “fana' fi'l-imam (annihilation in Imam)" today, so that tomorrow in paradise you may be a copy of the Sulayman of the time.

Q328 Verse (34:13) reads as follows: “O descendants of David! Act (righteously) and give thanks. Verily few of My servants are grateful.” The practical gratitude of what kind of bounties is commanded in this verse? Since the descendants of David(c) no longer exist, to which family is this command addressed?

A328

  • The extremely great bounties of the spiritual kingdom, which were granted to the physical and spiritual children of Hazrat David(c), are alluded to in this verse.
  • The heir to the throne and crown of Imamat and his true murids are in the place of the descendants of Hazrat David(c).

Q397 The other question relates to tamathil in verse (34:13). Please tell us what kind of tamathil the jinns used to make for Hazrat Solomon(c), physical or spiritual?

A397

  • The holy Qur’an always speaks of internal and spiritual wonders and marvels because material things are common to us all in this world.
  • The great favours of God that the jinns, by His command, used to accomplish great spiritual feats are mentioned in the verse under discussion. One of them was making luminous movies.
  • Sometimes, jinn is used instead of angel, in order to try the people and to hide a secret, because the obedient jinn is called angel and a disobedient one, satan.
