35:28

Hajar-I Anhar (Rock of Rivers): It is the rock from which the rivers (of knowledge and wisdom) gush out; the rock by whose splitting the water (of intellect and wisdom) flows from it and that rock which falls from the fear of God. And the rock which falls down from the fear of God is the Pearl of Intellect. Because the virtue of the fear of God is not found in ordinary human beings, let alone minerals, vegetables and animals. It is the virtue of the divine ulama (the pure Imams 35:28) only, for the Pearl of Intellect in them.

Pure Intellect 32

Both animals and men fear. But man possesses the partial intellect, which the animal does not, therefore there is a great difference between their fears. Now the more the intellect will develop through religious knowledge, the more the nature of fear will change, until the human fear will dissolve in the angelic fear, as the wise Qur’an alludes that people should fear God, but in the light of knowledge. For the real place of fear of God is at the height of the recognition of God (ma`rifat). That is, fear of God is among the matters of spirituality and recognition of God. This concept, however, does not negate the subsidiary levels of fear of God, but it shows clearly that along with knowledge, step by step, the fear of God becomes more apparent and more elevated, as it is clear from the verse (35:28): “And among the servants it is the `ulama' who truly fear God”. It is known to the people of the Qur’an that there are many levels of knowledge (12:76).

Book of Healing (71)

The fear of God is a panacea, the use of which certainly destroys all the germs of ethical and spiritual diseases. But those who truly fear God are those only who possess real knowledge. (35:28).

Book of Healing (175)

Since man is a collection of three things, namely: body, soul and intellect, piety and fear of God also has three stages namely: physical piety, spiritual piety and intellectual piety and the highest rank is that of intellectual piety, regarding which the wise Qur’an says: “And among the servants it is the culama’ who truly fear God” (35:28). It is evident that the highest rank of piety is impossible without wisdom and recognition (macrifat).
