50:16

Finally, it is also necessary to mention the causes of the above mentioned two stages of waswasah. According to the Quranic knowledge the dangerous waswasahs of the first stage are caused by the Satan and the weak waswasahs of the second stage by the nafs (carnal soul), as God says: “We verily created the man and we know what his nafs causes waswasah to him and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein” (50:16). The tawilick wisdom of this verse is that the God who created man physically is also going to create him spiritually. But God knows why thye spiritual creation has been delayed. The cause of this delay is the waswasah of the nafs whose remedy is in benefitting from the Devine knowledge, i. e. reality. In the light of this knowledge it will be known how the nafs causes the waswasah, what is its remedy and what kind of help can be received from God as He is nearer than the jugular vein.

Pearl Of Marifat (Part 1) 21

In the first hemistich there is an allusion to the Qur'anic verse:
And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein" (50:16)
That is to say that the living photo of Divine light (which has been explained under No. 1), is extremely close to a mu'min's "I". Thus, in this sense of representation, if He has stayed in my poor heart, then why should it not be a surprising thing, for there is nothing in my heart which is worthy of His dignity.

Spiritual Secrets 12

Habl al-warid (Jugular vein, the vein which goes from the heart to the brain)

Verse (50:16) says: "And indeed We created man and We know what his soul whispers to him and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein”. If God is so near to the "I" of His servant, then every mu'min is annihilated in Him potentially. Now, in order to be actually annihilated in Him he has to eradicate insinuation (waswasah) and the carnal soul once and for all. This special work can be accomplished through fana' fi'l-imam (annihilation in the Imam) and fana' fi'r-rasul (annihilation in the Prophet).

Thousand Wisdoms 266 (143)

The law of nature and the Divine act are with the people, when one realizes that God is the light of the heaven and the earth and closer to man than his own jugular vein (50:16), what secret then is hidden in saying that the He sent Messengers. Revealed Books, sent the soul (19:17) and that he sent the light (4:174)Is not the concept of spatial remoteness and height found in this kind of saying? The answer is that such sayings are only examples (amthal) and veils and their meanings (mamthulat) and veiled realities are truly wondrous.

Chirᾱgh-I Rawshan (31)

5. It does not make any difference whether I write a few words or not about the sacred service of knowledge in which my azizes have admirably participated, because the Honourable Scribes (82:10-11) whom God has appointed as the preservers of deeds, record everything without omission. The chain of ta’wil (7:53) about which the Holy Quraan has prophesied, continues and therefore we need to think about the Honourable Scribes and the record of deeds according to the exisgencies of modern thinking and principles of spirituality. For it is not correct to think that the record of deeds will be like a worldly book in a material writing, but is utterly different.

Chiragh-I Rawshan (36)

had azal been an infinitive time of the remotest past, then people would have been farther and farther away as time passes, but God, the Beneficent has not willed so. God says that He is nearer to man than his jugular vein (50:16). Thus, where God can be so close, how can azal and dahr be far? It is obvious that it is not possible for a big or small secret to be away from the ultimate destination in which the supreme honour of the Divine vision is attained and in which everything exists, while the Quraan says: Sacrifice everything for the Face of God in the form of knowledge and recognition (28:88; 55:27), so that you may beable to see everything in its manifestations. And this is the clear meaning and significance of Suratur-Rehman (Image of the Compassionate).
