65:10
It is necessary to mention at this point that the spirit and spirituality of the Qur'an mentioned here, remained intact in the blessed heart of the Prophet, even after all the verses of the Qur'an had been dictated to the scribes of the revelation. For God has designated His Prophet with the title of dhikr (remembrance) (65:10,11). Also, it is said that the Prophet does not forget (87:6). It should also be remembered that dhikr is the name of the Qur'an also (15:9). Dhikr also means remembrance of God, whether by ism-i azam or by any other means. Thus the Prophet was dhikr in all these senses. That is to say that, he was the speaking Qur'an, for the living spirit and speaking spirituality of the Qur'an was revealed to him and remained and lasted forever within him; he was a living and lasting dhikr of God, which constantly speaks by itself in a miraculous state and he was such an extraordinary and unique remembrance that he did not forget anything, either that of the Qur'an, or of anything else.
Ahl adh-dhikr (The pure Imams)
Dhikr is one of the names of the holy Prophet (65:10-11). The people of dhikr therefore, are the family of the holy Prophet. Dhikr is also one of the names of the Qur'an (21:50), and so the people of dhikr, are the people of the Qur'an. Dhikr is also the ism-i aczam (supreme Name), i.e. the asma'u'l-husna (the beautiful Names) and therefore, the people of dhikr are the people of ism-i aczam, the pure Imams. Thus, by the people of dhikr are meant the Imams who guide the people and are enriched with the given knowledge (cilm-i laduni), and therefore, they are able to answer every difficult question related to knowledge.
Further, it should be known that the spiritual and luminous existence of the Prophet also was hidden in the pure word, as God says: “So keep your dutyto Allah, O men of umderstanding! O you who believe! Now Allah has sent down unto you a dhikr (rememberance) who is a messenger reciting unto you the clear verses of Allah, so that those who believe and do good deeds may be brought from darkness to light”. (65:10-11)
Q230 One of the holy Prophet’s blessed names is “dhikr” (remembrance, 65:10-11). Why is he called dhikr?
A230
- Dhikr means the supreme Name (ism-i aczam) and the holy Prophet was the supreme Name in his time.
- Dhikr (exhortation) is the Qur’an and the holy Prophet was the speaking Qur’an.
- Dhikr means to remember constantly and to never forget. The Divine dhikr used to continue automatically all the time in the blessed forehead of the holy Prophet. Since he was the speaking Qur’an, it was not possible for him to forget the silent Qur’an.
- Thus, dhikr is the name of the holy Prophet in all these meanings and the people of dhikr are the people of the Prophet, i.e. the pure Imams.
