85:21

After the explanation of the state and reality of the command pertaining to the Quran and its rational or intellectual existence, let us come to its spiritual writing, which is in the Guarded Tablet. In this respect let us ponder on these two verses. God says: “Nay, but it is a glories Quran. On a Guarded Table.” (LXXXV:21-22). It is obvious that the Quran is written on the Guarded Tablet in the writing of spirit and spiritualism, and not in the form of any physical and material writing. In any case, the fact has become clear that the Quran if spiritually preserved in the Guarded Tablet forever, for it is the Tablet of the Universal Soul wherein is preserved not only the Quran, but is preserved everything for ever.

The Holy Quran in the ism-i azam 4-5

No mumin can doubt the fact that the fact that the Wise Quraan is not only in the external world, but also in the Guarded Tablet (85:21-22) in the form of spirit and spirituality and in Hidden Book (56:75-80) as well, which can be touched only by the purified ones. In the light of the Quraan, who used to purify the mumins in the time of the Prophet and how? You will certainly say that it was the Prophet who used to purify them by teaching them knowledge, wisdom and through other means (2:151; 9:103; 62:2). And who can accomplish this extremely important work after the Holy Prophet? Is there nobody to do this work now? This special work can only be done by those whome God has purified together with His beloved Prophet in every respect for the purpose of accomplishing this work (33:33) and they are the Imams of the pure Ahl-I bayt, whose luminous representative is the Imam of the time. Thus as a result those mumins who are purified by them (Imams) become able to touch the Hidden Book, and are those who have returned.

Kitabun yantiqu (Speaking Qur’an)

O the light of my eyes! In connection with the recognition of the Qur'an, refer to verses (85:21-22), in which the Qur'an is in the Guarded Tablet with grandeur and glory and there its adjective is majid (glorious), which is also one of the attributive names of God. You might also have read that the Divine Pen is the supreme living angel, namely the Universal Intellect, and the Guarded Tablet is the other great angel, the Universal Soul. The Divine Pen is the light of the Prophet and the Guarded Tablet is the light of Mawla cAli. Thus by the command of God, the Divine Pen (the light of Muhammad s.a.s.) wrote the glorious Qur’an in its azali luminous form on the Guarded Tablet (the light of cAli (a.s.)). This event took place in the higher world, and God decreed the same command to be executed in the lower world. Thus, God commanded the mazhar of the Divine Pen, the holy Prophet to transfer the spirituality and luminosity of the holy Qur’an to the Guarded Tablet, the Imam-i mubin, namely Mawla cAli and the Prophet definitely executed the Divine command.

Thousand Wisdoms 720 (382)

The Wise Qur'an has been revealed with all its excellences and miracles and there cannot be any doubt in the fact that it exists in front of everybody and it is simultaneously in the Guarded Tablet (85:21-22) as well. The Black Stone is in the Kabah as well as in the higher world. Adam came to this world and simultaneously he was in Paradise too. The real man is always in Paradise and only his shadow-like existence has come to this world.

Practical Sufism and Spiritual Science (127)

Q469 If you have received the charity [of knowledge] of the disjointed letters from the sacred door of the progeny of the holy Prophet, please tell us what are the secrets of the disjointed letters in verse (10:1): “Alif, lam, ra. Those are the verses of the wise Book”.

A469

  • God says: “By the supreme Pen, the guarded Tablet (and) the raqim (writing) (which is in the guarded Tablet)”, that they are the ayat (miracles) of the wise Book.
  • Raqim and marqum both mean writing. This writing is the glorious Qur’an, which is in the guarded Tablet (85:21-22). The Guarded Tablet is the light of the Imam-i mubin, as already mentioned.
  • For alif, lam, ra, see in the beginning of the five surahs: 10:1; 11:1; 12:1; 14:1; 15:1.
