By the Name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful.

Surah-yi al-Baqarah (2:1-3) begins with: "Alif, lam, mim".

Alif = azal = abad = awwal = akhir = the light of Muhammad (s) and `Ali (a.s) = [Divine] Pen = [Divine] Throne = Universal Intellect;
Lam = thani = Universal Soul = [Divine] Tablet = the Soul of souls = the Supreme Soul = the Supreme Human = [Divine] Pedestal;
Mim = maktub = marqum (writing) = ru'yat = luminous vision = Image of the Compassionate = God's face (wajhu'llah).
