Sadiqin (The truthful ones, those who are given Qur'anic wisdom)

It is said in verse (9:119): "O you who believe! Fear God and be with the truthful." This wisdom-filled verse is revealed about the Imams from the progeny of the holy Prophet. The truthful are those only in whose forehead there is the manifestation and miracle of the revealed light. Thus, it is the holy Imams who have the truthfulness and reality of the Qur'an and Islam. (Daca'im, I, 21)

Jacfar al-Sadiq (peace be upon him):

Root: jim, cayn, fa’, ra’ and sad, dal, qaf. Jacfar means river, stream and sadiq means truthful. This blessed name reveals the fact that the pure and holy Imam is the flowing river of true knowledge. Every Imam is al-sadiq (the truthful) of his own time and all Imams are called al-sadiqun (the truthful ones). Thus, the people of all times are addressed as: “O you who believe! Fear God and be with the truthful ones (al-sadiqin)” (9:119). That is, adhere to the Imam of the time, so that you will be enriched with the treasures of realities and recognition (haqa’iq-u macarif). It should be properly reflected here that, on the one side there are the people of faith who have to be with the sadiqun (the truthful ones) by attaining the true faith and practising taqwa (fear of God) and on the other, there are the sadiqun who are on the highest degree of perfection of faith, taqwa and truthfulness.

Q188 What is the ta’wili wisdom of verse (9:119): “O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with the truthful (as-sadiqin)”?

A188 The extremely great ta’wili wisdom in this verse is that Muslims and mu’mins of every age are commanded to fear God and be with the truthful (sadiq = Imam) of their time. There are many truthful people in worldly matters, but none is truthful in spiritual knowledge except the Prophet and the Imam. Therefore, in order to attain the truth and reality, it is necessary to be with the Imam of the time openly and hiddenly. Had it been impossible to be with the Imam in the personal world and in the sacred Sanctuary, the command of doing such an impossible task would not have been given.
