Another mention of quake is in the verses: "O people, fear your Lord. Verily, the quake of the hour is a terrible thing! The day you shall behold it, every suckling mother shall forsake her suckling and every pregnant female shall drop her load. You shall behold the people (as) drunken, yet they will not be drunk, but the punishment of Allah will be terrible." (22:1-2).

Zalzalat as-sacah (The quake of resurrection)

In verses (22:1-2) it is mentioned: "O people, fear your Lord. Verily, the quake of the hour is a terrible thing! The day you will behold it, every suckling mother will forsake her suckling, and every pregnant female will drop her load. You will behold the people (as) drunken, yet they will not be drunk, but the punishment of Allah will be terrible." That is, because of the severity of resurrection every teacher forgets his students, and the additional souls of every salik come out and they appear to be intoxicated.

Thousand Wisdoms 413 (223)

In fact, the quake of spirituality and the quake of Resurrection are the same thing. Thus, until we include all related noble verses in this subject, many of the secrets of this blessed quake will remain in the veil of concealment. It should be known that verses (22:1-2; 99:1-5) are certainly related to the Resurrection. Nonetheless, all such secrets are as a common denominator between both spirituality and Resurrection. Thus, we should benefit from the deep wisdoms of the quake in whatever context it may be mentioned in the wise Qur’an, so that we may be able to explain spiritual medicine.

Q400 Recently a dear student requested: Dear teacher, kindly explain what the quake of resurrection is? Is it physical or spiritual? Please also explain the wisdom of verses (22:1-2).

A400

  • Many wisdoms are hidden in the quake of resurrection. Indeed, it is an extremely intense quake.
  • Since resurrection is an internal and spiritual event, therefore the quake of resurrection is also internal.
  • The intensity of it is such that every suckling mother forsakes her baby. The ta’wil of this is that during the resurrection, no teacher can teach his students.
  • It is said that every pregnant female shall drop her load. The ta’wil of this is that during that time, the soul of every teacher is seized repeatedly.
  • It is said that people will appear drunk, yet they are not drunk. Rather, this condition of theirs is because of negligence and is a severe intellectual punishment of God.
