Guldastah-i Irfan

This publication features a selection of ‘Allāmah Naṣīr al-Dīn Naṣīr Hunzai’s poems. The first half of the book hosts the poems in their original Urdu script, while the second half displays each poem with its Roman transliteration and English Transliteration.

Excerpt from the Poem ‘Anā awr Fanā’ (‘I’ and Merging):
Darakht-i sar-bulandī sē tujhē gar bahrah lēnā hē
Khẉudī kē tukhm ko awwal girā dē khāk-i pastī mēṅ
If from the tree of eminence you want to pick the fruit,
First drop the seed of your ego in the lowly depth of the soil

Khẉudī kē dasht-i waḥshat sē ta’alluq ab nahiṅ bāqī
Naṣīrā! Ham to rehtē hēṅ “anā” sē pār bastī mēṅ
No relationship remains now with the ego’s desolation
O Naṣīr! We live on the other side of the “ego’s” habitation

Excerpt from the poem ‘Fanā Fi’llāh’ (Merging in God):
Tū hū mēṅ fanā ho jā tab ganj-i nihān tū hē
Yūṅ ho to samajh lēnā woh jān-i jahān tū hē
If you merge in ‘Hū’ (Allah), [then] you are the hidden treasure
If you attain this status, understand that you are the Soul of the world 

Is ‘ālam-i shakhṣi mēṅ sulṭān-i mu’aẓẓam hē
Tū us mēṅ fanā ho jā, phir shāh-i zamān tū hē
In this personal world, there is an exalted King
Merge in Him, and become the King of the time!

Tū chashm-i baṣīrat sē khẉud ko kabhī dēkhā kar
Jo ḥusn mēṅ yaktā he woh rashk-i butān tū hē
Sometimes observe yourself with the inner eye
The one unique in beauty, the envy of idols is but you

Excerpt from the Poem ‘Us nē Kahā: “Maiṅ tērā dil hūṅ’ (He said: “I am your heart”):
Dar-pardah kahā us nē dil mērē ḥawālē kar
Ay jān-i jahān, wa’llāh! Yeh lē kih tērā hē dil
[From] Behind the veil, he told me: Submit your heart to me
O Universal Soul! By God! Take this heart, it belongs to you

Is martabah-yi dil ko ‘ārif hi samajhtā hē
Gar pāk karē koī tab ‘arsh-i Khudā he dil
This status of the heart is only known to an ‘ārif
If somebody purifies the heart, it becomes God’s Throne
