A Rare Interview of Prince Aly Khān Conducted by Ḥusayn ‘Āsī

Excerpt:
“Husayn Asi: Finally, I have a question, which I have to ask. Are you conscious of bliss?
Prince Aly Khan: Is there bliss in this world? Life is a cup overflowing with pain. O friend! At times you said about me that I am rich and I have everything in plenty in this life. True, but I disagree with you [with respect to wealth]. Wealth has never been the essence (jawhar) and it is not the source of bliss for humankind. Wealth is only a means of living and is not bliss in the true sense. According to my belief, bliss is a spiritual substance (māddah), which pours its grace (fayḍ) over the soul and puts before it the sweet heavenly wine.” ~ Taken from the transcript of Ḥusayn ‘Āsī’s interview of Prince Aly Khan in ‘ ‘Alī Khān The Prince of Dreams and Legends’, Beirut, Dāru’l-Andalus 1960.
