Some Examples of the World of Ibda: There are two worlds. One is called the world of creation which is this world and the other is the world of command (7:54), which due to its being beyond time and space, is also called the higher world and itself is the world of ibda, in which everything, every bounty and all knowledge appear by the Divine command "Be". In this material world every pleasant thing is not available, and even though it may be possible to attain some of these things, one has to spend a part of one's precious life in hardship and toil for it. On the contrary, in the world of command, nothing is impossible, nor is there a moment of delay in its appearance. There is no past or future in it, there is only the present, because in it there is immovable time which is called dahr (76:1). Therefore, pre-eternity (azal) and post-eternity (abad) are in one place there. These examples show that spiritual science, in comparison to material science, is even more powerful and wondrous.

Consider now the circle of creation carefully, which shows both the world of creation and the world of command (7:54). In this example, both the worlds are joined together. When you start to draw a circle with a compass it has a point. But as soon as the circle is complete, its final end merges in the initial point. Similarly, every mu'min, who after being born, starts to walk on the straight path has limited ideas about himself at that time. But when he sees his soul and recognizes his Lord, he finds the endless progress of human life moving eternally on a circle.

Tabaraka (Blessed be He)

It is mentioned in verse (7:54): "Verily, His are the (world of) creation and the (world of) command. Blessed be Allah, the Sustainer of (personal) worlds." The unique treasure of the secret of secrets of the universal circle is hidden here. That is, God lets one boundless ocean of blessings flow from the world of creation to the world of command and another such ocean from the world of command to the world of creation. These Divine blessings have neither a beginning nor an end, rather they are in the form of an eternal circle.

Sittah ayyam (Six days)

It is mentioned in verse (7:54): "Verily your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established equality (musawat) on the Throne." By this creation is meant the creation of the world of religion which became complete in six major cycles and the creation of the personal world which became complete in six minor cycles.

If you think in the light of the Qur’an about the word barakat and the subject of barakat, God willing, your precious knowledge will increase greatly. The greatness of barakat is such that it is used for God Himself and (His) Supreme Name (7:54, 55:78). Barakat means abundance of blessings and favours and their perpetuity and continuity. Then the word mubarak (blessed) (3:96, 6:92) is used for the Ka`bah and the noble Qur’an. Physical barakat (blessings) are kept by God, the Sustainer of the world, in mountains and in the water of rain (41:10, 50:9). God has not called a tree, fruit and oil mubarak directly, except the olive tree and its fruit and oil (24:35). Certainly its allegorical meaning can be something else, but literally it means nothing but the olive tree. Thus its barakat is entirely different from that of the mountains and water, and that is the abundance in its medicinal efficacy and powers, which you can also see in the pharmaceutical books.

Q7 What is the ta’wil of “Allah created the heavens and the earth, then He turned His face to the Throne” (7:54)?

A7 The ta’wil of this verse is that Allah created the world of religion and the personal world in six cycles, namely the cycles of Hazrat Adam(a.s.), Hazrat Noah(a.s.), Hazrat Abraham(a.s.), Hazrat Moses(a.s.), Hazrat Jesus(a.s.) and Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa(s.a.s.), and then He turned His Face to the cycle of Hazrat Qa’im(a.s.).

Q289 Where are the world of creation and the world of command mentioned in the holy Qur’an? What is the difference between them?

A289

  • They are mentioned in verse (7:54): “Beware that the (world of) creation and the (world of) command belong to Him (Allah). Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds”.
  • The difference between the two is that in the world of creation (physical world) it requires time for things to be created, whereas in the world of command (spiritual world) everything comes into existence instantly by the command of “Be!” The blessings of God are everlasting and never come to an end. Since blessings are forever, therefore the human soul too, is forever. Al-hamdu li’llah!

In the light of the above explanation it is necessary to know that according to the fundamental divisions [of existence] there are two worlds: the world of creation and the world of command (7:54). The world of creation is contingent and the world of command is eternal. Contingent is that which does not exist always, rather it comes into existence within the limit of time; and eternal is that which, contrary to the contingent, always exists. According to these definitions, light is not contingent rather it is eternal. Therefore, it always exists. And the question of its beginning does not arise for a thing which always exists.

The command of God, may He be purified, is in the Word “Kun (Be!)”. He alone is the Absolute Sovereign of the world of creation and the world of command. He is above and far away from the act of creation and workmanship. By His command souls and [physical] things pass through the boundary of creation and command. He is the Sustainer of both of them. As He says: “Verily, His are the creation and the command. Blessed be God, the Sustainer of the worlds” (7:54). That is, He alone is the Sovereign of both the world of bodies and the world of souls. His countless bounties and favours are in both of them. He is the Sustainer of both the creation and the command.
