39:6

Adam and Eve: It is said in the Glorious Qur'an: "He created you from one single soul, and then He created from it its spouse." (39:6). These are first the Universal Intellect and the Universal Soul and then Adam and Eve.

An Extremely Great Secret

Q. 77. "He created you from a Single Soul, then from it He made its spouse" (39:6). For a long time I have been thinking of this verse, but cannot make sense of it. For, if we consider here "Single Soul" to be Adam (Universal Intellect), the creation of children from one single person and thereafter the creation of spouse is something impossible. Please kindly explain the secret in it to us.

A. By the favour and help of God and putting my trust in Him, I say that there is really a great secret hidden here. The secret is that in this verse is mentioned the Universal Soul, in whose background is also necessarily mentioned the Universal Intellect. Universal Intellect and Universal Soul, in the language of religious wisdom, are called the "Simple Pair" and the spiritual Adam and Eve. Thus, from the "Single Soul" (i.e. the spiritual spouse of the Universal Intellect) were created all the souls of the previous great cycle and at the end of that cycle, the Universal Soul ascended to the rank of the Universal Intellect. The ta'wili example of this is that since this great angel, who was like the mother in the previous cycle, now became the father of the souls of the coming cycle, hence God made his spouse from him. That is to say, one great hadd, from among his hudud, was raised to the rank of Universal Soul, so that a new world of the souls may come into existence by their spiritual marriage.

What is Soul 56

THREE: In the spiritual world, there are three highest ranks: the Divine word, the Universal Intellect and the Universal Soul. In the physical world there are also three highest ranks: Natiq, Asas and Imam. The existents are of three kinds: intellectual. Spiritual and physical and accordingly there are three kinds of darkness and light (39:6; 77:30). Hazrat Zakariyya saw thw miracle of not speaking to people despite sound health, in the world of intellect (19:10). In which he was ordered in the language of wisdom that he should not discuss the secrets of the Divine word, the Pearl of Intellect and the Universal Soul, which are hidden like a silent night. At this place, he saw another miracle of not speaking to people for three days except by signs (3:41), which means he should talk to people by sign about Natiq, Asas and Imam who are manifest like the day.

Sublime Realities 69

EIGHT: You have read in the article of “Veil and Mazhar” that God also uses a veil. Thus this verse is in the veil of example: “And He revealed (anzala) for you eight pairs of cattle.” (39:6). If you see the context of the entire verse and reflect upon the word “revealed (anzala)”’ you will be sure that the hudud-I din are sent by God as mentioned in this verse. That is, their work together with the luminous rank of Natiq, Asas, Imam and Hujat-I azam are both in in zahir and batin, therefore they have eight pairs. See verses (6:142-144) and also read Wajhi Din.
Study verse (28:27) which says that Hazrat Musa looked after goats for Hazrat Shuayb for eight to ten years. The tawili wisdom of this is that during that time he was also tending the goats of the particles of soul. See verses (18:9-26): the people of the cave were seven and the eighth was their dog. In the tawil of this parable is hidden the extremely great secrete that the luminous ranks of the Imam of the time are seven and every mumin, who is a dog of the Imam in service, slavery and loyalty, is considered the eighth, and thus the people of the cave are eight. This happens in the personal world of the mumins, in which many capacities are dormant or potential. when the soul awakens completely, it becomes known that there is everything in the personal world, although it is not easy to believe it. Finally, we would like to mention that it is not without wisdom that some mumins are named Sag-i Ali or Kalb-i Ali (Ali's dog).

Sublime Realities 73

It should be remembered that the fundamental law of Islam is Allah’s sunnat, one of special explanations being that He “creation within creation” (39:6). It is this Divine law which the Wise Quraan calls fitrat (30:30). Whether you call it fitratallah(30:30) or sunnatallah (17:70), in any case, the perfection of both the body and the soul of Prophets who were sent by God, was according to the sunnat of “creation within creation “ (17:77). If any aziz is not sure, he should seriously study the related verses, so that he will not have any difficulty in understanding the realities and recognition which are going to be explained on this basis.

Zulumat (sing. Zulmah) - Darkness

It is said in verse (39:6): "He creates you in the womb of your mothers, creation after creation, in three darknesses."

Question: What are these three darknesses?

Answer: Physical darkness, spiritual darkness and intellectual darkness. This shows that light too, is of three kinds: material light, spiritual light and intellectual light.

Nafs wahidah - (One soul, one person, Adam)

In verse (39:6) God says: "He created you from a Single Soul (Adam), then from it created its spouse (Hawwa').” This is the spiritual wife, i.e. hujjat-i azam, the supreme hujjat of Adam, whom God created from the knowledge of Hazrat Adam. This is the meaning of creating Hazrat Hawwa' from his side. If we observe carefully, we will come to know that it is a permanent event, because every able student in the status of his knowledge is created from a perfect teacher.

Another example of "Creation within creation" is verse (39:6): "He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, in three darknesses." When man is in the state of sperm in the womb of the mother he is in three darknesses, namely the physical, the spiritual and the intellectual. In such a state God creates him through creation within creation and brings him forth to physical perfection. That is, he creates sperm from the quintessence of clay, and from the sperm a clot, from the clot a lump of flesh, from the lump of flesh bones, which he clothes with flesh, and then He creates another creation (23:12-14). This noble verse addresses humans in the language of wisdom and tells them that when they were in the womb they were devoid of three kinds of light, bodily, spiritual and intellectual. This precisely resembles the descent of Hazrat Adam from the Supreme Paradise to the earth. Had this not been so then the three darknesses would not have been applied to him whilst in the womb, for Qur’anic words are not without actuality and reality. That state of man which is called death and that state which is called life and all the things that are related to these states together make a complete circle. It is obvious that a circle has neither a beginning nor an end. Wherever you start on it is its beginning metaphorically. If we have to interpret reality we have to use metaphors for without this it is not possible to explain reality. Reflect well on this noble verse: "He Who made all things created (them) excellent; and began the creation of man from clay." (32:7). This sacred verse needs ta’wil to explain it, because in this world there are both good and bad things. The ta’wil is that God is He Who raised everything in the world of creation to the world of command creating it through creation within creation and there gave it an excellent form and began the creation of the True Man from the rank of mu’minhood. Thus you can see from this that there were mu’mins before every Adam.

Part 85

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

It is mentioned in verse (39:6): “He created you from nafs-i wahidah (Single Soul, i.e. Adam), then from it He made its spouse (i.e. Eve)”.

To continue from the last paragraph of Part 84, when all the souls became Adam’s spiritual children, their previous relationship ceased (23:101). Other than Iblis, the rest of the angels prostrated to Hazrat Adam, the vicegerent of God. This prostration was extremely amazing. The carifs have observed it, but it is extremely difficult to describe it. Suffice it to say that the world, its parts and particles were repeatedly falling into Adam’s personal world spiritually. From one aspect this was the prostration of all the angels, great and small and from the other it was the subjugation of the universe. There are numerous secrets hidden in this prostration of angels and the subjugation of the universe.

Now, Adam was not alone, his countless spiritual children were with him spiritually. I have therefore stated before and repeat again that you were the sajidin (ones to prostrate) in the multiplicity of angels and masjud (one prostrated to) in the unity of Adam.
