In the Glorious Qur'an, the subject of the law (sunnat) of God is extremely important. The law of God has continued to manifest itself in the personal world of the noble Prophets and the great Imams (40:85), without any change or alteration (35:43). And the most important point in His law is that He says "Be" for spiritual completion after the physical creation, as can be seen in verse (3:59) about Hazrat Adam and Hazrat Isa, that the Word "Be" at the rank of azal, which was within them had made them one even though there was a great distance of time between them. The same is true for all the Prophets and Imams and step by step for all human beings.

Din (The True Religion)

There is the renewal of the sunnat (law) of God in the personal world of every Perfect Man (40:85). This is the fundamental Divine law from which no great event is excluded, for example the creation of the earth and the heaven, the renewal of paradise and hell, the appearance of the great events of azal and abad, the miracles of the covenant of "Am I not? (alastu?)", the stories of the Prophets of the Qur'an and others, states of resurrection and the prevailing of the true religion over other religions.

Nafs wahidah (One soul, one person, Adam)

The sunnat (law) of God, in which there is no change, continues in the personal world of carifs and kamils (40:85). Thus, the wives of the children of Adam will be created in paradise just as Hazrat Hawwa' was created from Hazrat Adam. Study verse (30:21) carefully and give particular attention to the meaning of "min anfusi-kum azwaja” (from yourselves spouses).

Q10 Could you give us some explanation of “tajaddud-i amthal (renewal of similitudes)”, which is a Sufic term? Please give us three examples.

A10 By the renewal of similitudes is meant the Divine habit or law, which continues without any change or alteration and the locus of its manifestation is the personal world of the Perfect Man (40:85). It is in everything of the universe, since all existents continue to always move on the circle of possibility and there is no beginning or end to the circle of creation. For example (a) the unending journey of water on its circle of going up and coming down, (b) the continuous recurrence of seasons, (c) the circulation of blood, etc.

CASKETS OF PEARLS Vol 1 (11)

Q32 It is known that a promise is made in view of the future and it is also known that most of God’s promises take place spiritually, whereas the masses expect them to happen physically. Thus, the promise of God related to the miracles of spirituality and resurrection, which is conditional on spiritual exercise and jihad against the carnal soul, becomes fulfilled for every carif. Please explain this to us.

A32 Resurrection actually takes place in two forms. In one form its time is fixed, in the other it is beyond time. That is, the major resurrection does not come before its fixed time, whereas the minor resurrection, which is for the sake of attaining macrifat, has continued to take place in the chosen friends of God (40:85), so that the door of realities and recognitions may remain open for the people of macrifat. As for the awareness of the resurrection, it is evident from the wise Qur’an that it takes place secretly and unconsciously (6:47; 26:202) with respect to the ordinary people, who will thus remain blind to it (27:66) and only the people of macrifat will know and be aware of it.

CASKETS OF PEARLS Vol 1 (21)

In verse (40:85) God says: "Allah’s sunnat is that which has continued in His servants, and the disbelievers are ruined." The ultimate meaning of "in His servants" is in the spirituality of His chosen servants, or in other words, in the blessed personality of the Prophets and Imams. For although the human habit changes according to his circumstances, God’s habit or sunnat never changes and remains the same. His sunnat is according to His attributive names and His word and act which first appears in the mirror of the heart (spirituality) of His mazhar. Thus those who understand this secret benefit abundantly and those who do not are in great loss.

Part 62

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Hakim Pir Nasir-i Khusraw says in his Diwan:

Bar jan-i man chu nur-i Imam-i zaman bitaft
Laylu’s-sarar budam-u shamsu’z-zuhaa shudam.
When the light of the Imam shone upon my soul, even
Though pitch dark night, I became the shining sun.54

The above experience is not just an accident, it is a beautiful description of the Divine sunnat, whose miracles had taken place in Hazrat Adam. The same sunnat continues in his servants (40:85). The wisdom of the verses related to the Divine sunnat is extremely important. For instance, the sunnat established in Hazrat Adam’s time that he was taught the ism-i aczam by the Imam of the time,55 has continued forever in his servants (40:85).

Everything, other than God, is in pairs (36:36). Thus, Hazrat Adam had two ism-i aczams, one was in a written form (tahrari) and silent and the other was luminous and speaking (i.e. the Imam of the time).56 The story under discussion here is that of the Adam of our cycle and not of the primordial Adam.

Mawla cAli has said: “I am the primordial Adam”.57 In another sermon he says: “I am eternal (qadim) in this world”.58 This means that cAli is the primordial Adam who is eternal in the world. This is the chain of “light upon light”, in which cAli is the light and the countless persons are the countless Adams.59 Study carefully in the wise Qur’an whether Allah creates vicegerents (khala’if) from the children of Adam or not? (6:165; 24:55) It is incumbent upon people to thank Allah abundantly.
